The storms that lashed Sydney on Wednesday evening caused havoc for thousands of NBN customers who are still using a form of NBN infrastructure that is exposed to the elements.
This exposure means that in the event of major storms, the infrastructure could be impacted by water, heat, lightning strikes and the odd mouse or rat.
All of which could cause you to lose power to your devices and then no internet.
The NBN types that I speak of are FWA, FTTB, HFC, FTTN and FTTB.
There is a major program currently funded by the Australian government to convert the houses that are Fibre to the Node ( FTTN ) or FTTC that uses copper lines and convert them for free to Fibre to the Premises ( FTTP ) using optical fibre glass
What this means is that the chances of being impacted by adverse weather events are very small as Glass does NOT conduct electricity.
so if you are one of the 15000 customers in Sydney who ha FTTC or FTTN for their NBN delivery to your home, and you have a blown NBN box or Modem that needs replacing, consider the free upgrade now if it is available in your area.
It may just save you from losing your internet when the next bifg storm hits!
